AERF Mixed Pairs returns
The AERF Mixed Pairs will return to the Australian Open in February...
The AERF Mixed Pairs will return to the Australian Open in February with the popular club-based tournament recently signing a three-year contract extension.
Now in its fifth year, the Challenge supports the Alcohol Education and Rehabilitation Foundation in its continuing work to help combat drug and alcohol related issues within Australian communities
Staged across the nation, the AERF Mixed Pairs is open to any affiliated club bowler, with the state winners converging in Shepparton at the Australian Open to determine the overall winner.
As in previous years, the format remains the same, with club winners going on to contest regional finals before the state champions are determined.
All state and territory winners will receive a flight and accommodation package to the Australian Open.
Apart from the chance to enjoy the atmosphere of competing at the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest tournament, state finalists also have a chance to take out the national winner’s prize of a trip to Singapore, courtesy of co-sponsor Singapore Airlines, and the major share of the generous prize money pool.
Entrants must be members of the same club and entry fees for the club event will go directly to the AER Foundation.
Bowls clubs also have a commitment to promote the AERF’s message about sensible use of alcohol when staging the event.
The messages include:
- Actively encouraging players to quench their thirst with either water or soft drink before drinking alcohol.
- To serve alcoholic drinks over the bar by standard measure. For example, not filling a wine glass until it is overflowing or taking a rough guess with spirits
- Encourage players to appoint designated drivers or use alternate transport if required.
- The state and territory finals for the AERF Mixed Pairs are expected to be completed by the end of January.
Competition formats on club days may be determined by each individual club, however, the regional, state and national finals will be three bowl pairs, sets play.
